Night One

I'm lounging on the makeshift bed of two matresses pushed together on the floor in one room of the 2 bdr apartment myself, Alyssa, and Emily are subleting. Alyssa's talking on the phone to a friend and Emily's writing to a loved one. I lay here stuck between an adolescent urge of homesickness (my parents are staying, just for this night, a block away in a hotel I might add)and the pride of an adult's first night on their own. Fully unpacked and having already rearranged the apartment to suit our needs, I feel comfortable. I feel excited, but most of all I feel tired.
I was awakened this morning by my blaring alarm at 6 am, left for Providence train station at 7:30, arrived around 8:50, boarded my train promptly at 9:20. A semi blissful ride in which I watched Saved! and had the pleasure of listening to the sreeching of miget people. Departing the train I stepped into the jungle of strangers and humid train exaust. I woofed down a slice of pizza with my parents before having the stupid idea of walking from 38th to 56th street...it was not raining when we started, but by god by the time we were half way there it certainly was. We arrived wet and tired into the Da Vinci Hotel at which my parents are sleeping, only to be told the room wouldn't be ready until 3. Sadly it was 2 and Alyssa and Emily had not arrived in NYC yet with the keys for our splendid apartment. I spent the next hour playing scrabble on my itouch with my mom in the lobby of the small hotel...the rest is a blur and only my back aches hint at the day's overall feel. I can safely say that it's not my personal safety I'm most worried about, it's the fear of cockroaches. Will we get them? Or will we be lucky enough to not experience them?
